My summer so far...

So I haven't been blogging lately and there is a good reason for that: I'm in the middle of moving house and that has been taking up a lot of my time. Next to that I did not have internet in my new place until a day ago so the online world kind of passed me by...

And yes my new apartment is the most exiting thing in my life right now, but I will wait until the last of my furniture has moved in at the end of this week and make a big post on it with lots of pictures and background stories to some of my stuff.

In this post a quick recap of some other things I've been doing next to painting and moving. (excuse the fact that there are many instagram piccies, it was the easier way of posting the last month, a few minutes of WiFi would suffice)

First some exibitions openings I went to in Amsterdam:

New for Now: the origin of fashion magazines at the Rijksmuseum. Such a lovely exhib, with a very beautiful way of dispaying the fashion prints on show.

Swinging Sixties at the photgraphy museum of Amsterdam (foam). Not exactly my period but a feast for the eye nonetheless. Lots iconinc images and some psychedelic wallpaper that worked very well.

One of my favorite places tot shop is the Waterlooplein flea market. For its 130th anniversary Club Interbellum (a group of  Dutch people who love the style of the inter war years and of which I'm a member) was invited to walk around in their vintage attire.

Ofcourse we also went shopping:

Here I am at the kiloshop looking at a 1940's jacket that was unfortunately too small for me. It had the same fair working stadards label as the jacket I was wearing. The rest of my outfit consited of a 40's dress (better seen further on in this post) and a boater hat. I first wanted to wear a far more dramatic hat but is was very very windy and the boater was challenge enough to keep on my head.

At Maaike's stall (my favorite place at the Waterlooplein, where I've bought a substantial part of my wardrobe) with my friend Myrtle.

And with my friend Marinka.

Then I spent a few days at my parents (mainly to pack the things I still had at there place). The garden is so magical at this time of year. The evening primroses open at dusk and their yellow is so electric its almost as though they were lightbulbs.

During the day the purple foxglove is stealing the show.

I was wearing the same mid to late 1940's rayon dress I wore at the Waterlooplein. It has a very bright  floral print and was my first summer wardrobe purchase of the year this spring.

Next to packing up boxes I was also looking for nice things for my apartment. I have a thing for old wool blankets. I don't like to sleep under modern duvets, I prefer a sheet and blanket. Up until the mid fifties they were made with beautiful patterns (at least in Holland).

I found these at a local second hand store (where they cost next to nothing).

some people might find second hand wool blankets icky, but you can just put them in the washing machine (I always do).

Not that I really needed any blankets because along came a heatwave that lasted for about 5 days.

In the pictures below temperatures are still doable. My father has one piece of grass that he will let grow very long every year. When it is finally mown it can be turned into hay. The pictures however are not realistic, the different fases of making hay were staged for the sake of my father wanting to make a nice series of photographs...

The pictures turned out rather nice though, with me looking like a farm girl ;)

So then the farmgirl had to return to the city where the heat always strikes double...

To evade the heat I went to the beach  in style with my vintage loving friend Martine.

I was reading 'Een Zomerzotheid' (A summer foolery) a girls book written in 1928 by Cissy van Marxveldt. As far as girls books form that period go this is the best thing EVER....and such a nice historic source

I was wearing beach pyjama pants I made from an old pattern once and a cotton bathing suit. Bathing suit could either be 40's or 50's, the fabric looks more 40's to me though. It is homemade so no labels to give any clues. To complete the look and protect from sunburn a parasol (actually an umbrella).

Beachbabe Martine with her ever perfect hair!

So that was my summer so far, but still many more beautifull days to come.

Just a sneak peak into my new appartment: some selfies taken in the mirror of one of my 'new' wardrobes, dressing table in the background.

You can see my favorite wallpaper int the back.

To be continued in another post.
